Maruata (day 2)

Ruth got up at 7:00am and went right out to the beach to see if there were any big sea turtles still up laying their eggs. We had meant to try and get up earlier, since they don’t usually come up to the beach after sunrise.

I stayed in bed for a while, but Ruth got to see what she was looking for. There were a lot of tracks, and one turtle was still in the process of laying the eggs. Ruth kept her distance so as not to bother Mrs. Turtle, and eventually she finished the job and headed back to sea.

Ruth also saw some baby turtles who had hatched and were making their way out to the water for the first time in their lives...

Later on in the morning, I went and used the internet café for a couple of hours, and Ruth got herself and Whiskey (and Whiskey’s friends!) set up at our spot overlooking the ocean. We spent the afternoon watching the ocean, and reading.

Before dinner, we took Whiskey for a walk on the beach, and then left her with Sherman while we took a little hike in the rocks overlooking the bay at Maruata...

  3. Great turtle pics, and it looks like Whiskey enjoys her day at the beach, Rigg's would be in the water until he dropped. Be safe out there, Sam & Donna..

  4. WBY...They were sooo cute! Unfortunately I know one for sure that didn't make it. I helped some of the others to the edge of the beach just to give them a better chance at life.

Chuck and Anneke...It was an awesome sight and I feel fortunate to have seen it. This is such a great beach for that.

    Janie and John...Thanks it was!

Sam and Donna...Thanks! I am sure Rigg's would have loved the swimming there. The waves were too much for Whiskey.

  5. Hey, Ruth and Kevin! Nice to see your pics of our favorite place. Did you know that the rock in the last picture you posted is called The Finger of God by the locals? We always enjoy our walks over to the other two beaches. Gorgeous!
Is the bakery lady still operating at the second beach? She makes a mean pizza, along with other tasty treats.
We have watched the turtles (both moms and babies)many times and never tire of it. It's such an awesome thing to experience. Glad you had good luck, Ruth.
Continued happy trails and just a heads up that La Siesta is closing very soon in San Miguel. Folks that are camped there now are allowed to stay until March 4th, but that might just be the end of the campground. So sad.....That was such a great location.

  6. Paula and Jerry...Didn't know about the bakery until after we left. Kevin will have to try it out next time we are there.

Terry and Mike Church are here Hacinda Contreras so they mentioned it to us that La Siesta was closed or closing soon. Can't say we were thrilled with the La Siesta park. I like the other one further in town better but our rig is too big to get in there.
