Still in Winnipeg

Thursday October 25...11:10pm

Laundry day again today, and we wanted to spend some time looking around downtown Winnipeg. The GPS unit found a laundromat a few kilometres from where we had been parked at the casino. The guy running the place allowed us to use their electricity to charge up the laptop, and we had no problem connecting to the internet while we waited for laundry to be done.

Had some lunch and drove to "The Forks" area. They have lots of free parking, even though it's pretty much right downtown. Some communities could learn from that! Had a nice long walk around the rivers, where the Red River and the Assiniboine River meet up. Then left Whiskey to guard Sherman and we went and explored the little shops and tourist stores in the area. Contacted my friend Glenn who lives right downtown and he was going to meet us after supper for a drink. It was a beautiful afternoon...heard on the radio that the temperature went up to 20C, and it was nice and sunny.

Was thinking about staying for the night in our free parking spot near downtown...but decided to head for the west part of town where there was a Wal-Mart so that we could stop by one of the swimming pools in the morning, and then continue out of town heading west. So we had the GPS unit taking us there, but when we got to the destination, there was a lot of shopping centres, but no Wal-Mart. These GPS units are great, but they are not perfect. Especially when the maps become slightly outdated. So we wnt on a little mystery tour, even mistakenly going through the Winnipeg airport parking lot, before inputting another casino in the GPS...but before we could get to the casino, we came upon the new Wal-mart...so that`s where we are set up for the night.

  1. Hi Kevin & Ruth, I came across your website recently from an OurTour blog & am enjoying reading your blogs from the start. It's nice to get a Canadian perspective on touring & see things are not really that much different! We have a 1994 Hymer B544 called Bertie & have done 2 longer tours of 5 & 7 months down to Spain & Portugal to get away from the the last 2 British winters. We plan on doing the same this winter for 3-5 months (depending on how long we're allowed to stay in the EU after Brexit...) Your comment re the GPS unit resonated with us as we have done the exact same thing looking for a non existent Lidl! Happy touring! Sharon (& Andrew)

    1. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment, we are glad that you are enjoying our blog. No, really things aren't all that much different here in Canada compared to Europe. In fact back in January 2017 we spent about two months traveling through parts of southern Spain and Portugal in a European motorhome and really enjoyed ourselves. We have actually been talking about buying a motorhome in European in the next year or two and doing some more extensive traveling there. Good to hear that you have enjoyed traveling to the same area to avoid the British winters. Maybe one day our paths will cross. Happy travels to you both. :-)
