Woke up this morning in a cabin on top of a mountain! It was so peaceful...not a sound to be heard. Ellen and Ben have a really nice little spot up there. We're not so sure we'd want to live in a place like that in the winter, but it was sure fun to spend
the time there that we did. Ellen made us some poached eggs and toast (really good!) and then we took Whiskey for a little walk before heading back to Sherman where we had left him in the Walmart parking lot. Actually, there was a fresh dusting of snow on the road leading up to their place and we were seeing lots of fresh animal tracks. We figured one set of footprints was a bobcat. They were quite a bit bigger than Whiskey's footprints and definitely looked more like a cat.
Then we went and did some grocery shopping because we're going to head down to Osoyoos area...probably for a week or so. Stopped back in to say thanks and goodbye to my Aunt Barbara, and then we hit the road. We had figured on driving for only an hour or maybe an hour and a half which would have taken us slightly south of Kelowna. So after getting through Kelowna we took a side road leading about 6km's to a Provincial Park, but they had it all closed up and there was nowhere suitable to set up for the night. So we continued on another bit to Westbank, which is almost like a suburb of Kelowna. Found a road leading up to a ski area. It was really quite steep so we weren't sure what we were getting into, and it turned out to be a waste of time. Got up there and must have missed a sign or something, but couldn't find the ski area or anywhere to park. It was getting dark, and we hate wasting too much time and gas looking for somewhere to park, but decided to continue on to Peachland.
Peachland, it turns out, is a really nice little tourist town. We can imagine that it would be packed around here during the summer, but at this time of year there's not much going on. First, we pulled into an RV park, but they wanted $30 for the night. Couldn't justify that, so we ended up parked beside the marina right near the main drag, but because it's low season we don't think we'll be bothered here. We didn't get here till dark, but have taken the dog for a walk and are now looking forward to exploring a little more during the daylight tomorrow. Real estate prices here are pretty nuts. We were looking at the listings in the window of a nearby real estate office and a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom bungalow sells for about $350k. In fact, out of all the listings on the board, that was about the cheapest. The average price was between $550k and $700k.
So tomorrow we will explore Peachland, and maybe take in a winery tour or two.
