Osoyoos

Saturday November 17...11:30pm

It was about a 10 minute drive from our overnight spot into the town of Oliver this morning. Found the tourist info building...and it was closed! Only open from Monday to Friday. Now when do you figure most people are travelling at this time of year?
Monday to Friday? Figure out the logic there...Anyhow, it had lots of parking, so we left Sherman there while we went for a long walk on a trail beside the Okanogan River. It was a really nice morning...the sun was peeking out occasionally, and the temperature was about 9 degrees. We've been told that this area, from here to Osoyoos is quickly becoming the "Palm Springs" of B.C. because of it's relatively mild climate.

Stopped in at one more winery...the Oliver Twist winery. The owner himself was there to show us around and it turned out that he was a fellow RV'er. He and his wife lived in their motorhome back in the 80's for 3 years and did what we are doing. He also has travelled to Mexico in his current RV, so we had lots to talk about. And as we were the only ones there, we spent quite a bit of time talking about things in between sips of wine. The only problem with this is that you kind of feel obligated to buy a bottle at each of these stops because you're the only ones there, so you can't just have a few sips and leave unnoticed. So we did buy a bottle from Bruce, but will not stop at any more wineries!

Drove on another 15km's or so to Osoyoos. Found a Shell station (double Airmiles day!) and topped up both the fuel tank and the propane. Had no problem finding the Nk'Mip (pronounced Inkameep) RV Park. Got set up and found that the cable TV didn't work. Went back to the front and the guy said the whole row doesn't work, but most people now have satellite TV, so he sometimes forgets to mention it. No big deal, we've gone more than a month without TV, but he said he'd find us a working site tomorrow. Went for a little walk around to familiarize ourselves with where everything is. We're finally going to use the bikes this week...the town is about 3km's away and we're going to try and not drive Sherman at all for the week. This week will be good for fixing a few minor things on Sherman and getting things cleaned up a bit better. Also, they have an indoor swimming pool and hot tub as well as a clubhouse with pool tables and games and stuff. So there will be time for a little rest and relaxation as well!

Here's the website of the place we're staying... www.campingosoyoos.com

As we were checking the internet late this afternoon, it started to rain! Osoyoos apparently has the lowest annual rainfall in Canada, and is Canada's only "hot desert area". The town website even says "It never rains in Osoyoos". Yeah, right! But, the forecast for the week is for sunny skies, so lets hope that holds true.
