Kevin's post - Mexico Resort (day 1)

Tuesday December 4th...10:15pm

Sure enough, the alarm went off at 5am. It didn't take us long to get ourselves ready to head to the airport. Seems like forever that Sherman has been parked at this casino...yet it's really only been 3 days. We made it to the airport by 6:30am...with lots of time to spare for my 8:40am flight.

I have very mixed emotions about this trip. On one hand, I look forward to getting into the consistantly warm weather...on the other hand, I wish I were driving down the coast with Ruth. I'm also slightly nervous about all of this coming together as we hope it does logistically. But I'm also quite confident that it will.

I have made it into Mexico for my 180 days of visa tourist allowance. Actually, it will be 150 days because the Vancouver office stamped it November 3 instead of December 3rd...no matter that should be fine. Made it through customs fine on that, in fact it almost seemed as if the Mexican customs just don't care so long as you have a piece of paper filled out.

After the plane landed in Manzanillo, I was directed to a bus where a girl handed me a cold cerveza to welcome me to Mexico. It was about a half hour drive to the resort where about 10 people of the 250 or so on the plane were headed. This particular resort is very popular with the locals who live in Guadalajara area. And it's an older resort...but the staff sure do make you feel welcome. They tell you right away that if there is ANYTHING you need, you should just ask. After getting my room, I wandered around to familiarize myself with the place, and soon found myself getting to know a Canadian couple from Kamploops area. They had already been here for a week, so they knew the area fairly well. We had dinner together, and then watched the Mexican fiesta dance show. They also had a tequlia drinking contest for the ladies, so that was kind of fun as well.

Temperature is about 30 degrees. Calling for 28 and sunny tomorrow.
