Kevin's post - Mexico Resort (day 6)

Sunday December 9th...11:00pm

Still no word from Ruth...so no idea what's going on there! Doesn't matter, I suppose...either way I have to take my flight to Tijuana tomorrow.

I rode the local bus this morning all the way to other other side of town where all the shipping terminals are. Manzanillo is a major shipping port for the west coast of Mexico and this supports the economy of the city whereas tourism supports the economy of almost any other Mexican city on the west coast. Apparently 40% of the working population of Manzanillo is somehow employed in a job related to the ship yards. It's too bad there's so much garbage lying around. I mean, that problem exists (and I can never figure out why) in a lot of places, Canada included, but it's a lot worse here. And a lot of unfinished buildings and falling apart buildings. Not sure Manzanillo would rank on my "places I want to live" list. Anyway, it cost me 60 cents to ride the bus about a half hour. Then I got off and walked for an hour, but I lost the route where I could get the return bus back, so I ened up flagging a cab and it cost me $6 to get back to the resort.

Thousands of shipping containers.

This afternoon I finally went and played in the big waves. It's fun for a while, but the salt water really stings my eyes, so after 15 minutes or so I'd had enough. Lots of Mexicans down at the beach today because it's a Sunday and quite a few of them make the 2 ½ hour drive from Guadalajara for a day at the beach.

Had a nice supper at the full service sit down restaurant tonight, and then went to the adults only room for a few games of pool. Relatively early to be tonight because I have a travel day tomorrow and have to be up around 7am. I'm going to try and get a ride into Colima with a tour group that's leaving, but they don't know if they'll have an extra seat until 8:30am. If not, I'll take the local bus to the Centro Camionera (bus terminal) and catch the bus to Colima. Then I'll likely have to take a cab from the Colima bus terminal to the airport. Then I change planes in Mexico City and land in Tijuana at 4:10pm. A couchsurfing.com guy is meeting me at the airport and I'm spening the night at his place. Tuesday morning he'll drop me off at the border where (with any luck at all) I'll be meeting up with Ruth and our friends Glenys and Steve.
