Merry Christmas

Tuesday December 25...9:15pm

Waking up on Christmas morning to the sound of waves breaking on the beach outside your doorstep is definitely a good thing! Not a cloud in the sky again this morning.

Kevin and Ruth Christmas morning

Walked into the nearby community to use their internet access again this morning. Tried making a few "skype" phone calls to our parents and children, but we've learned that when everyone else on the internet is trying to do the same thing, it doesn't work very well. At least we made the effort, and we did manage to communicate with everyone for a little while.

The big event of the day is the Christmas dinner, taking place at 3:00pm this afternoon. John and Margaret who live at the very last palapa on the beach are hosting this second annual dinner for all of us who are homeless and unemployed and enjoying Christmas on the beach. They've set up tables and chairs and their palapa is big enough to have the food and kitchen area indoors. Everybody has brought something, and as is usual with these events, there is more than enough food to go around for the 35 or so people who show up. We have a feast of turkey and stuffing and all the trimmings. A large variety of desserts including a selection of freshly baked pies brought by Martha. Everyone who isn't one of the "beach regulars" is amazed by how lucky they've been to have come across this particular gathering of people who have welcomed a bunch of strangers into their Christmas with open arms.

We think we've decided to stay here a few more days. We still haven't climbed the little mountain across the road, and we're hearing of a trail in the hills a little further back that's supposed to be nice as well. Besides, we're in no rush to get anywhere and the people here are really nice.

It's become windy again tonight...hopefully it will be calm again by morning.
