Today was probably the nicest day we've had so far. There was no wind this morning, and by mid day the temperature had reached around 25 and it was sunny. Ruth did her "christmas exchange" haircut this morning, and around
lunch time one of the other beach campers had offered to take us out to one of the islands in their boat. This was kind of nice, but it turned out to be pretty windy out in the bay, and I would have been happier staying back in our little cove, so we didn't stay on the island very long.

We saw a school of dolphins this morning in the bay. They didn't stick around very long, but it was pretty neat to see them jumping out of the water for a bit.
Another one of the long term guys, John, had offered to go out and get us some fish for supper. He came back with about 8 sand bass about 6-8 inches long. Small fish, but he said they are delicious. This was all fine and dandy, but neither Steve or I have any experience with filleting fish. So we sort of tried to kill one of the little guys in order to get the fillets, but we had no idea what we were doing. It didn't take long before we were back at John's doorstep asking if he could show us how it was done. We were terrible. Anyhow, John was a good sport and showed us how it was done. Turns out we were being too nice by trying to kill them before getting the meat...you just skin them alive. Says everyone does it that way...then as you're doing this by the beach, the pelicans gather because they know you're going to throw them the carcass. The whole experience was pretty funny...but I have no interest in ever repeating it. A fisherman, I am not!

Funny pelicans
Whiskey went for a swim this afternoon and had fun chasing the pelicans away from Steve when he was filleting the fish.
In the afternoon, we started the generator so that Ruth and Glen could do each other's hair and I cleaned out the refrigerator gas workings, and vaccumed the interior of Sherman. It also helped in recharging the batteries a bit because we've been parked in the same spot for 3 days now without charging the batteries. Reminder to self...new house batteries work much better than ones that are 7 years old! Had we had new batteries while dealing with November in Canada, we would have been much better off!
The rent collector stopped by tonight. We paid our dues up to the 26th. We will decide then whether or not we're due for a change of scenery.
After supper, we heard Christmas carols. The neighbours way down the beach had started off singing carols at every campsite, and had picked up a few more people after every site. By the time they stopped into ours, there were probably 12 people outside singing. We joined in, and continued down the beach.
A very different Christmas Eve for us. Probably the first of many Christmas Eve's to be spent in a motorhome.
