Vizcaino, Baja California Sur

Wednesday December 19...11:00pm

Left the campsite at Bahia de los Angeles and drove into town to try the internet, but couldn't get connected. We planned a bit of a longer drive today because there's not much to see in the desert between here and San Ignacio.

So if we make it to San Ignacio, that would be great because the beautiful beaches of Mulege and Loreto are not that far away and we want to spend Christmas in that area. So we filled up the fuel tanks again and headed on the road.

What the scenery looked like for most of today's drive

The road and the not so interesting scenery

Had to go through a military and agricultural inspection near the town of Guerrero Negro. This is also where we cross into Baja South, and the time zone changes. We are now 2 hours behind Ottawa, and 3 behind Halifax. At the agricultural inspection, we have to pay 20 pesos ($2) to get our tires sprayed with disinfectant, and the inspector confiscated 2 apples we had in the fridge. Good thing he didn't find the other 4 we had hidden in the laundry basket! What a joke...with Steve and Glen, they were just asked if they had any fruit...never looked or anything. Oh well, if 2 apples and 20 pesos is the worst we get scammed I suppose that's fine.

Saw a sign on a hotel in Vizcaino that said "RV's" and "wi-fi". So we stopped and inquired. Turns out to be $10 for the night, including hot showers, toilets, electricity and internet. Funny how our perspective changes, but if we were in Canada or the U.S., we'd have jumped at the chance to stay here for $10...but now we are spoiled and $10 sounds expensive. Oh well...this way, we get caught up on our internet, cleaned up, and water tank filled.. They don't have a laundry though, and the one down the road wanted $4.80 per load.
