The plan today was to drop off Malcolm, Claire, Ruth, and Whiskey near the dock for the whale watching trip around 8:15am, then drive back and drop off Steve and Glen. After that, I would drop off the car rental back at the hotel we rented it from, and then make my own way back to the marina in time for our 9am boat trip.
This all went according to plan until I brought the car back and the rental agent accused us of doing damage to their car. Given my background, this was obviously not the case, but because I had booked the car online and NOT taken their "strongly recommended" (and very expensive) insurance, I was therefore responsible for all damages to the vehicle that they could think of making me pay for. This of course didn't go over very well with me, and I refused to leave the car until they agreed to close the invoice with a final bill. The guy didn't want to do that without his maintenance man inspecting the car first. The car had a lot of previous damage on it from other renters, but this had all been noted on the rental form to begin with. I suppose the average tourist would have just paid the extra, or offered the rental agent a "tip" to forget about it, but I was adament that I was not going to get ripped off. Long story short, the maintenance guy eventually came and agreed I had not caused any additional damage.
However, this all meant that I was late for our agreed upon 9am start for our whale watching trip. But I did get the rental company to give me a ride there, and managed to get there for about 9:30am. Even though we started late, we ended up having a good time.
Fernando, our captain, drove us out near the famous Cabo rocks where we saw a lot of birds and sea lions and even fish through the glass bottomed section of his boat. Have a look at the pictures, and you can see where one of the rock formations looks like Scooby Doo. After that, we headed about 10 km's out to sea in order to see the whales. Apparently it's easy to get to where the whales are at the beginning...you just head to where the other boats already are. But then it becomes a game to see what boat can guess the direction the whales are headed after they go under water. That's what takes up the majority of your 3 hour tour. A 3 hour tour. The weather started getting rough. The tiny ship was tossed. If not for the courage of the fearless crew, the...oh, never mind. In any event, we did end up following a pod of 3 humpback whales for about 45 minutes, and we did get fairly close to them. It was a good time for the $25 each that we spent.

Afterwards, Ruth and I walked back with Whiskey to the RV Park. We had to change camp sites this afternoon because apparently a longer term renter had reserved our spot and so we were relegated to another. No problem, because we are leaving tomorrow anyhow. Spent the rest of the afternoon giving Sherman his first full bath in 3 months, and cleaning up the interior as well. Not sure when the next time is we'll get electricity because tomorrow we're headed up to Los Barriles area for some free camping again for a few days. It's been nice staying at Vagabundos for a few days, but it's far too expensive for our liking!
Packed in like sardines, we couldn't even open our bottom basement compartment!
