Los Barriles (day 4)

Thursday January 31...11:00pm

End of the month, and in adding up our expenses, we find that this has easily been our cheapest month yet. Including miscellaneous expenses such as entertainment, meals out, propane, booze, laundry, etc, we spent a total of $898 to live for the month.

We had originally planned on $1200 or so as an average, so we've got to get a few more of these cheap months in over the year. It'll be interesting to see how it all works out when we have a full year in. Our biggest expense so far has been gasoline. Since we set out on October 15th, we've spent $2,680 on gasoline...or an average of $670 a month, which is far more than we planned. And we still have to drive to Florida, and then back up to Ottawa before heading to Halifax area in the summer.

Nice house on the hill overlooking us

One of our neighbours, Randy, had a complete tire repair kit so I finally fixed Ruth's bike tire properly, as well as our spare tire for Sherman. We're going to bike into town tomorrow to do some exploring. Had a nap this afternoon, then we were invited over to Jack and Margarit's motorhome in the RV park next door. They have a fairly new 36 ft diesel Winnebago with all the toys. This is the couple we met at Santispac beach a few weeks ago. They made a delicious chicken and pasta dinner, and we chatted over drinks afterwards.
