Los Cerritos Beach (day 3)

Thursday January 17...9:50pm

Took Whiskey for a long walk along the coast going north from where we are parked. There was a dirt road leading to where they are starting to develop some of the properties and so we walked using that to get to some of the
coastline in order to walk on the rocky shore. Also climbed some small hills to get a view on the way back.

As we approached one of the little coves, we saw a lot of turkey vultures on the ground. This normally indicates there is something dead nearby, and sure enough, there was. And did it stink! We couldn't figure out what it was that had washed up on shore though. The pictures don't really do it justice. It was at least 20 feet long. At first we thought it was a whale, but there didn't seem to be any bone structure to it. Then, we thought it was one of those giant squid things, but what appeared to be tentacles didn't seem to want to separate when I tried to move them with my foot. Check out the pics I've included and let me know if anyone has any ideas.

We're changing our travel plans a little. Keeping in mind that things are definitely NOT written in stone! We were planning on going to Mazatlan sometime before the end of January. But we've found out that Mazatlan Carnaval is from January 23 to February 5. And apparantly Mazatlan is a ZOO during that time. We've also decided that we want to make it to the east Texas border around Brownsville by sometime around February 20. We're going to make an effort to get into the U.S. then in order to make it to south Florida by the time Alex plays baseball there around March 20. We're also hoping to meet up with Lindsey and Justin at some point in there...hopefully in the Florida area. That way we don't have to feel too rushed. And, when we do eventually get to Mazatlan, we are likely to separate from our friends Glen and Steve and head towards Durango through the mountains, while they head further south along the coast towards Puerto Vallarta.

Nice sunset
