Los Cerritos Beach (day 5)

Saturday January 19...8:45pm

Took Glen and Steve on the hike over to see the dead "thing" down the coast. Met some other people there who said that a grey whale had washed up on the beach a couple of weeks ago and some locals had carved it up a
bit and taken whatever parts of it they wanted and then hauled the remains out to sea.  But it washed up again, and that was what we were looking at. So that answers the mystery of whatever the "thing" was. Had a good hike though, and it was fun walking around the rock pools and seeing the various things living there. Quite a few live whales out in the ocean today. You could see them spouting and splashing their tails.

I had a nap in the afternoon while Ruth sat on the sand dune overlooking the beach and watched for whales.

Later, we were sitting having "happy hour" with some of the neighbours when we were invited to join them in town for supper. They were going to a local place that apparently does the best hamberguesa's around. And there were quite a few carloads going and we were welcome to hop in with them. Sure enough, they were really good hamburgers. Price was about $2.50 each, and you could bring your own beer to the restaurant. Too funny...things are so laid back here. There are far too many stupid regulations in Canada. Anyhow, there were 15 of us that went there and everyone ordered one hamberguesa...except me, I ordered two. And they were pretty big, but I did manage to finish both of them.

When we got back, a lot of us gathered around for a campfire. It's interesting hearing everyone's story as to how long they've been RV'ing and how long they've been coming to the Baja. And fun to tell our story as well since we are inevitably the youngest ones and the ones with the least RV'ing experience.

Tomorrow, we've been invited to join some of the people who have 4 wheel drives as they go on some of the dirt trails to a village about 40 km's inland from here. We're hopping in with an older couple who have been coming to this part of the Baja for 15 years. So we're looking forward to that but we have to be up early to have breakfast and take Whiskey for a walk before we leave at 9am. Whiskey will be staying behind to guard Sherman until we get back shortly after noon.
