Victoria, Texas

Wednesday February 20…10:00pm

Woke up this morning to the sound of a few raindrops on the roof. I haven’t seen any precipitation since December 4th…about 10 weeks.

We drove a few blocks away from the Walmart and parked in a residential area to use somebody’s internet for an hour or so. Then we drove on to Victoria, Texas…a small city of about 60,000 people. Nice little place, and they have a municipal RV park that costs $12 a night for full services. That’s not bad. It drizzled on and off for most of the drive, but it was only about 50 miles from where we were last night. We’re not in a big rush, so don’t want to do a lot of driving every day. So long as we’re in New Orleans area by the 28th (I’m flying up to meet Alex and checking out a new school in Salem, Massachusetts), and Jacksonville, Florida by March 8th (We’re meeting Lindsey and Justin somewhere around there).

When we got set up at the RV park here, it started to rain fairly hard. As I said, this is the first precipitation we’ve seen in more than 2 months. The motorhome was pretty dirty and there was still dust and sand stuck in all the little nooks and crannies…a decent rinse would do it good. I decided to help out and got the hose and bucket out. The roof needed a good wash. It’s supposed to be done every three months or so. I had never done it, so who knows the last time it was done. That was hard work though. It was so dirty. It’s 10x better now, but I’m still going to have to buy some special cleaning stuff that’s made for RV roofs. We’ve paid our $12, and it wasn’t the nicest day for sightseeing, so I spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning Sherman in between rain showers.

Went for a long walk before having a late supper. Going to head back to the coast tomorrrow as we get closer to Galveston.
