Ithaca, NY

Wednesday April 16…10:40pm

It was COLD last night. I put our remote thermometer on the outside step overnight, and it went down to -6C (20F). We were nice and toasty, but our electric heater was never shut off all night.

Spent much of the morning using the facilities at the campground. Had nice hot showers, and used the electric to give Sherman a much needed vacuum inside. We finally got on the road about 10:30am, and once again we were on the twisty windy roads of central Pennsylvania. It’s really pretty countryside though.

Soon enough, we found ourselves crossing the border into New York State. One thing we notice is how the northern states have a lot more American flags flying in front of their homes compared to the southern states.

We drove through Elmira, N.Y., and I had never even heard of the place before. It’s quite a big city though. Stopped and had lunch while parked in a church parking lot. The roads here could use some maintenance…lots of potholes!

We’re parked up in Ithica, NY, at the Walmart. So far, a very quiet location and we are the only RV here. We are just down the road from Buttermilk Falls State Park (yes, a different Buttermilk Falls than the one we were at yesterday) and so we walked down to the day use area and used their trail system to go for a hike. There were lots of stairs and uphill sections on the hike, and we notice Whiskey getting more tired on these types of hikes. She will be 12 years old next week.

Gas is a bit more expensive in New York State so far. This area is now around $3.45 a gallon. We had been paying between $3.15 and $3.30 for most of the last 3 weeks.
