Kinston, North Carolina

Wednesday April 9…11:15pm

Sitting having breakfast this morning, and I’m looking out the window at the new water hose the guy across the way had given us…and it’s leaking! At the same spot the last one was! As I sat drinking my coffee and wondering how it could
possibly be leaking, I see a squirrel scamper its way over and take a little drink from the leak. It then dawned on me that this squirrel has figured out that its teeth are sharp enough to cut itself a little water supply from these rubber hoses. When we went over to tell the story to the guy who had given us the hose, it turned out that one of their water hoses was leaking too! It was kind of funny.

We took Whiskey for a nice walk through the forest trail at the state park, and then along the beach for a little way. Check out time was noon, and we didn’t leave until then. We had 160 miles or so to drive to Kinson, North Carolina. I had read online about a city park they have there with full hookups for $10 a night. We stopped a couple of times along the way, and didn’t get there until after 5pm. The rules say that we’re supposed to pay at the nature center, and if there’s nobody there, to pay in the morning or as soon as possible thereafter. I wandered over to the nature center, but they are only open 9:30am to 5:00pm, and we want to leave before 9:30am, so not sure who we’re supposed to pay in the morning.

We had a quick supper and then rode our bikes over to the local stadium to watch the Cleveland Indians single A farm team play here in Kinston. It’s a really nice stadium, built back in 1949 and refurbished several times since then. The players are all between the ages of 20 and 24, and it was interesting to watch because these players have all been signed or drafted by major league baseball, and are now in the development stages. Some of these kids will likely make it to the major leagues. It was a slow game though, and we ended up leaving after the 7th inning when they had already been playing for 3 hours.
