Playing in the snow

Thursday April 17…9:20pm

Yes, we played in the snow this evening. We’re parked at the base of the Cazenovia Ski Hill, and when we hiked up to the top, there were still some patches of snow on the hill. But it was a totally beautiful day…in fact you couldn’t ask for much better.

Got up at 7:15am, and it was not so cold despite not having any services…temperature at the bedside was 8.5C (47F) so it didn’t take long with the sun shining in the window for things to warm up.

I didn’t realize that Ithaca NY is the home of Cornell University. No offense to Ithaca, but it’s a pretty dinky little town to be the host of such a well known school. Anyhow, we drove through some of the campus area on the way out of town...they seem to have a strength in agriculture and veterinary medicine. Very nice countryside around here though.

We drove to Cazenovia NY, with intentions of stopping at the Chittenango Falls State Park and then driving to the Oneida Walmart for the night. And we did stop at the Park, and went for a nice hike and admired the falls. Our hike was a little muddy in spots (see pictures) but it was sunny and warm…a beautiful spring day. From the parking lot, we could see a ski hill nearby, so I rode my bike up to the ski hill parking lot. It was a great spot to spend the night, but there was a house right next door that was too close to feel comfortable parking there without asking. Just as I was about to ride away, the owner drove into the driveway, so I rode over and asked if she thought anybody would mind if we parked in the ski hill parking lot for the night. She said she was a member of the ski club, and would give permission for us to stay there. It’s a great little spot. Much better than Walmart.

Our hiking trail is starting to get muddy!

Ruth and Whiskey washing the mud off their feet (I took a detour around the mud)

Ruth made roast beef and roast potatoes and beans for supper, and then we hiked to the top of the ski hill. Whiskey rolled in the snow. She’s so funny with snow.

Tomorrow we’ll be in Watertown and see Alex again. Supposed to be a sunny day again tomorrow!
