Had a terrible nights sleep last night. We were parked beside the strip of road next to the harbour and in the middle of the night it became very windy and stormy. There was open water on both sides of the strip of land we were on so there was nothing to shelter the wind. Even Whiskey was tossing and turning and she seemed disturbed by the wind.
The bad weather continued for most of the day. We were planning on stopping at Inverness for the night, but when we got there, it was pouring buckets of rain. We drove on to the Glenora Distillery where they make the only single malt whiskey in Nova Scotia. Our fridge had quit working and when I opened the access compartment, it was soaking wet in there. We had been parked the wrong way to the wind, and it had blown all the water inside. Couldn’t get the propane flame to stay lit. So I tried a few different things but to no avail. We went into the distillery and were going to take the tour but they wanted $7.00 each, so we declined. In Scotland, the distillery tours were free when we were there and you got a healthy free sample as well. We decided we didn’t want to pay $7.00 each for the sample!
Pouring buckets of rain!
We needed internet to try and figure out what was wrong with the fridge so we finally found a decent connection in Port Hood. I tried several suggestions I had found from people who had complained of the same problem, and nothing worked. Eventually, I dismantled the burner assembly and gave it a good cleaning. It was pretty rusted, and I expect it had been a long time since it was cleaned…if ever. Put it all back together, and it worked perfectly. In fact, it worked better than it has since we’ve owned it. I think the moisture situation was just a coincidence. Anyhow, I’m very happy that it all turned out well without any cost. Plus, I learned more about the workings of an RV fridge, so the whole experience was not a bad one.
There’s nowhere suitable to park in Port Hood, so we ended up driving all the way back to Antigonish. So we’re back in the Walmart parking lot for the night.
