Busy week

Thursday August 28…9:30am

Well the past week and a bit that we’ve been back in Ottawa area have been VERY busy!

The end of last week was spent getting ready for the weekend. It was my parents 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, and there were a lot of relatives coming from out of town. We picked up Lindsey at the airport on Friday, because she flew in from Charlottetown for the weekend. It was really nice, because Alex didn’t leave for school in Plattsburgh until Sunday morning, and so it was the first time in almost two years that the four of us have been together. The weekend went really well, and although it was tiring, we really enjoyed seeing everyone. I had to get up at 4:30am in order to drive Alex to Plattsburgh University on Sunday morning. He’s in a residence room with two other boys, so we didn’t have to go through the hassle of finding him somewhere to stay. Plus, he gets the “all you can eat” meal plan, so groceries and cooking are other things he doesn’t have to worry about this year.

Made it back from Plattsburgh (about 300 km’s each way) in time for the anniversary reception at my parents church. I was the emcee, and was a little nervous about that, but it all went well. Afterwards, all the Read relatives went out for dinner at a Thai restaurant, and then met back at my parents place for a final goodbye.

But Ruth and I carried on with my Uncle Dave and Aunt Melissa on Tuesday. We went for an overnight bicycle trip with them. They had rode from Ottawa to Fitzroy Provincial Park on Monday, and then Tuesday morning we met them at the Quyon Ferry to cross the Ottawa River to Quebec. They have some nice bike paths there that used to be railway tracks, and so we cycled a total of 40 km’s (26 miles) to the town of Shawville Quebec where we camped for the night. Dave and Melissa do a lot of bicycle camping and canoe camping, so it was nice to travel with them for a day and learn some tips about camping that way. We separated Wednesday morning and they carried on towards Campbells Bay while Ruth and I headed back to Galetta, where we are staying at Ruth’s parents. 40 km’s each way, my legs were a little tired after that. Today is a day of rest!
