Barra Del Tordo (day 2)

Thursday November 20…10:30pm

We didn’t sleep well last night, because Whiskey had some kind of reaction to a flea and tick medication that we gave her. She seems
okay now, but she was very restless last night and couldn’t sleep. This of course kept Ruth and I awake, and we probably only got 4 or 5 hours sleep.

However Ruth still managed to go for a run on the beach after we got up. I’m going to get ambitious enough to join her one of these days when I’m ready to do it on a regular basis. For now, I took Whiskey for a walk down the beach to meet Ruth on her way back. It doesn’t take long to get hot out. By 8:30am, the sun was getting very warm already.

Our camping spot on the beach

We read our books this morning, and spent some time planning our next few stops over the next couple of weeks. The routes through the next two major cities, Tampico and Veracruz, have some choices and it seems best to bypass these cities.

S&G had invited us for lunch and we enjoyed a delicious meal of curried beef over rice. Sometimes we have our main meal at noon hour and then just an oversized snack in the evening.

This afternoon, Ruth and I biked into the nearby fishing village to see if they had internet. Most of the small villages do have some form of internet access, because the Mexican government has spent a lot of money getting satellite internet into all of the rural schools. Not all of them have wi-fi though, and the school in this particular village was closed when we arrived. So we do not have internet, and most likely won’t until we leave here on Sunday or Monday.

The residents of the nearby village do stare at us…this beach area is not touristy, and we are an odd site riding into town 5 km’s (3 miles) each way on our bikes. They are friendly though, and wave back when we wave at them.

Most of the day was warm and sunny…high about 28C (82F). But by 6pm a strong breeze had come up and it cooled off quite quickly.

Played canasta with S&G in the evening.
