Barra Del Tordo (day 4)

Saturday November 22…10:00pm

Cloudy again today, but not quite as cool. High about 22C (72F).

We took Whiskey for about an hour walk down the beach, and by the time we got back we would have thought people would have started showing up for the fishing tournament, but there was nobody. The shopkeeper nearest us had been the one putting up the signs for the tournament, and he had also brought in extra tables and chairs, and a sun shelter. We felt badly that nobody showed up, so Steve and I went over and asked what he would charge us for lunch. He said they would make us a nice fish dinner for 50 pesos ($4.85 CAN, $4.10 US) each. That was fine, so we went back and checked with the girls and then the four of us went over for lunch.

The diner on the beach...we were the only ones who ate here during the time we were here

Claudio, the owner, speaks less English than we do Spanish. However we managed to have quite the conversation anyhow. We learned that he has satellite television inside his hut, so Steve was happy to find out some of his British football scores. And he told us of a better route south to Tampico that we would not have known about. We also explained to him that he has the perfect location to host caravans of RV’s because this beach area is so unknown to camping. We also learned that the fishing tournament had been postponed for one week because of the cold weather. Claudio says it was snowing in Texas! We have been without communication for 5 days, so we have no idea what’s going on in the world. It is fun communicating with the locals!

Our lunch was very nice, and Claudio didn’t mind us taking pictures of the kitchen.

Played cards again today, and watched a DVD on the laptop this evening.

If the weather is still cloudy tomorrow morning, we are going to do some driving to a destination just past Tampico. If it’s nice and sunny tomorrow morning, we will stay here for another day.
