Sunday November 2…11:00pm

We said goodbye to Bob and Donna and left Garnett around 9:45am. Our plan was to drive about 120 miles (200 km’s) to Miami, Oklahoma where there are several casinos and really cheap gas!

We stopped several times along the way to relax. Our lunch stop was in Pittsburgh, Kansas where we needed to use a dump station that was at a city park. It cost $2.00, but we figured we may not find another one along the way, and there wasn’t likely to be one at the Casino. We also had lunch at Lincoln Park in Pittsburgh, beside a really nice baseball diamond…Jaycee Ballpark, which was built in 1940.

We crossed into Oklahoma and a few miles later entered Miami, Oklahoma. One of the very noticeable things about many of these small towns we drive through is that the downtown areas are DEAD. Many of the shops are closed up, and it’s all in the outlying areas where the big box stores have set up shop. A lot of towns have started downtown revitalization programs, but not sure how successful they will be.

Strangely, we couldn’t see any signs pointing us to the casino area. We did fill up with fuel though…at $1.93 US per gallon. ($0.60 CAN per litre!). This is the cheapest we have ever paid since starting out over a year ago. I stopped and checked the internet, and the biggest casino in the area should have been directly west of here. So we drove that way, but never came across it. Rather than turning back, we decided to continue further to the Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees…a large lake created by a dam system further south. We found a state park, and paid $10 US ($11.80 CAN) for an unserviced site.
