We had a good day today!
Got up and drove about 5 miles over to the Clinton Lake day use area. Had some breakfast there, and then took Whiskey on a hiking trail for about an hour.

Drove south from Lawrence through Ottawa, Kansas and on to Garnett. We had no plans on where we were going to stop for the day, but we could see the lights for a baseball diamond as we entered the town, and so drove over to them. It looked like a fine place to park for the night, and so we set up camp there. We read our books for an hour or so, and I had a nap. Then we took Whiskey for a walk around the nearby fairgrounds. When we came back, it was about 4pm and so we did some more reading.

An older couple were out for a walk and because we had our door open they wandered over. Bob and Donna are fellow motorhomers who live in Garnett. They were asking if we were headed south, and it turns out that they are also heading for Texas, but they aren’t leaving for a few weeks. We chatted for a while and we asked if they thought we were okay to be parked here for the night. They thought so, but also recommended a couple of other spots around town. They left, but were back a few minutes later suggesting that we come and park in their driveway, where we could fill up with water!
So we took them up on their kind offer, and when we got here, he suggested their back yard was more level so he opened the gate so we could park there.
Next thing you know, they’re inviting us in for a glass of wine. One thing leads to another and we end up staying for dinner and talking the evening away. We now have new friends, Bob and Donna in Garnett, Kansas! It is so funny how life turns out sometimes.
They spend winter in Rockport Texas, so we will likely get to visit them there when we exit Mexico in the spring.
Oh, and we bought gas for $2.09 US a gallon. That’s about .65 per litre CAN. We didn’t fill up though, because I see online that it’s $1.95 a gallon in Oklahoma!
