Marble Falls, Texas

Tuesday November 11…11:00pm

We had a heavy rainstorm early this morning. It was about 5am when we woke to what sounded like very big raindrops on the roof, but we think it may have been small hailstones. There was a definite difference in sound when it actually started to rain.

When we did get up, the rain had stopped but there were lots of large puddles outside. I checked the roof, but it was totally covered in small leaves from a nearby tree. I hooked up the hose in order to wash them all off, and while doing that I decided I might as well wash the roof properly, which was one of the things I had wanted to do this fall but had never got to. So I got up there with the dish soap, a bucket, and a big scrubbing broom I had bought for that purpose.

When we drove out of the campground, we were only headed into Hico about a mile away to use the internet. A car drove up beside me honking it’s horn, and I stopped. The woman said “You’ve left something on your roof”. And sure enough, I had. When I got off the roof and rolled up the hose, I said to myself “don’t forget to take down the bucket and soap and brush”. Dummy.

We drove about 100 miles (160 km’s) south to Longhorn Caverns State Park in order to do their cave tour. It was a very “abused” cave, as far as public caves go. Most of the stalagmites and stalagtites had been broken off years ago, and it had been excavated and had natural openings blocked with manmade openings dug. It was still interesting, but we like the more natural caves better.
