Friday November 7…11:00pm
We were up early, and drove right away for a half hour or so in order to warm things up. Temperature inside Sherman was about 50F (10C) so it was a chilly night. Not a cloud in the sky though, so that usually makes things a little colder overnight.
Filled up the gas tank at $1.99 US per gallon (0.62 CAN per litre). Only got 8.7 mpg on this last tank of fuel. Too many steep hills and too much stop and go driving on this leg of the trip. Good thing the price has come down so much!
We got into Plano (a suburb north of Dallas) at about 11:00am and stopped at a public library near our friends house. We called Don from there and arranged for him to meet us at their house at 12:30. He had to go back to work, and Joanne wouldn’t be back home from her work until after 3pm, so that would give us a chance to make use of their shower and laundry facilities.
These are friends that we met while vacationing in Antigua in 1993. We’ve kept in touch over the years with Christmas cards, but haven’t seen them since we spent a weekend at their cottage about 14 years ago. They have 2 children of their own now, Jessica 13, and Jefferey 9.
We enjoyed BBQ hamburgers with them in the evening, and then played a fun board game called Apple to Apple.
Tomorrow they are taking us on a tour of Dallas, where we are looking forward to seeing the JFK shooting area and related historical info.
It was another beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky and high about 72F (22C).
Total nights sleeping in a motorhome…382
