Tahlequah, Oklahoma

Monday November 3…9:45pm

Got up early enough to see the sunrise. Must have something to do with the time change because I was tired too early yesterday evening as well.

Sunrise at Bernice State Park in Oklahoma

We drove south, around the west side of Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees to the Pensacola Dam. This was the first hydroelectric facility in Oklahoma. It was built between December 30, 1938, and March 21, 1940, when depression-era labor was abundant. It is located between the towns of Langley and Disney, and is over a mile across. It is quite impressive. We drove across the top of the dam to the other side to try and get a better view of it. But we could see a campground in the valley below the dam that would give us a better view so crossed back to the other side again.

The Pensacola Dam

Very impressive...

Do you think she said yes...?

The valley below the dam

The campground down below was really nice. It was a state park facility, and it was empty. We went to the office and asked if they would mind if we used the showers and they said no problem. So we parked in one site and enjoyed the sun while we each took turns using the shower room.

We’re on our way to Plano, Texas which is a suburb on the north east corner of Dallas. But instead of driving there in a straight line, we’re going to stick to the east part of Oklahoma where the rolling foothills of the Ozark mountains begin.

We made it as far as Tahlequah. This is a small university city with population of about 15,000. We’re Walmarting it tonight because I needed an internet fix.
