Tilden, Texas

Wednesday November 12…11:00pm

Drove into San Antonio this morning. The only thing we were worried about with getting right into the downtown area was parking. I had been on google maps and found a large parking lot close to downtown, so that is where we put our destination into the GPS unit.

When we got there, it was much quieter than we had anticipated. It was about 11:00am and the parking lots were less than half full. But the parking lot we went to wanted $30 US ($36 CAN) for the day. And so did the next lot we tried. So we went to another street that had parking meters and put in $1.00 US ($1.20 CAN) for 2 hours. As we were doing this, a bicycle cop was riding by and we asked him if we’d be okay there and he said it was fine. So we walked over to The Alamo and I wandered around inside while Ruth sat in the shade with Whiskey. We wanted to be sure to do the River Walk in San Antonio, so after I looked at The Alamo, we walked over to the river. It’s a really nice area and easy to see why it’s so famous.

After we finished the walk, we went back to The Alamo so Ruth could have a look while I say out with Whiskey. We made it back to Sherman just as our 2 hours was up at the parking meter. Sure enough, it was all fine, and we got away with some very inexpensive parking for our short tour of San Antonio.

Headed south through San Antonio to Pleasantown, but the Walmart there didn’t have a good parking lot, so we continued on.

We are parked at the fairgrounds in Tilden, Texas (pop 600) and have permission to do so from the Lions Club who run the grounds.

  1. I'm loving reading your blogs! This brought back lovely memories of 3 trips to San Antonio where I have family, I loved the area around The Alamo & The River Walk, my husband and I were lucky enough to be there for the Fiesta in 1998 & watched the river parade with all the colourful floats, such a lovely atmosphere! We're currently waiting for our new drive to be completed before heading south to Gibraltar & Spain, can't wait! Enjoy Texas! Sharon Mainprice (UK)

    1. We are glad that you are loving our blog. :-) That was our first trip to San Antonio, we were actually there again just this past April and had a wonderful time once again. You were lucky to have been there during their Fiesta, it sounds like that would have been a beautiful sight to have seen.

We traveled in an RV in southern Spain back in 2017 and loved it. We stayed in Spain and walked over to Gibraltar then as well and really enjoyed ourselves. I am sure you will like it just as much and also to be away from the damp, cold English winters. :-)
