Another spot near Puerto Ceiba (day 2)

Thursday December 11…11:00pm

It was windy all last night, and it rained on and off. We decided to stay put and ride it out today in the hopes of better weather, but it never showed up. So it was a day of reading books and playing cards.

We took Whiskey for a walk through the nearby village, and we noticed that the children were not in school today. We wondered if there was some kind of holiday. We also noticed that many homes, no matter how basic, have some kind of Christmas decorations up. Some even have a Christmas tree, which seems a little out of place in rural Mexico.

A shine for the Virigin of Guadaloupe day in the little village of Playa Azul

Another thing I get a kick out of is the electrical wiring that you see. Many people just hook into the main electrical system on the hydro poll outside their house and simply never bother to tell anybody about it. And they don’t care how basic it’s done, either. I see some houses that have at least 6 or 8 pieces of wire spliced together and held with electrical tape in order to hook into the main wiring. “Safety First”… I don’t think so!
