Lake Catemaco (day 4)

Friday December 5…9:30pm

It was pouring rain when we woke up. It never did clear up, and remained overcast the whole day. Not very nice for Glen’s birthday, but we had no control over the weather. However we did have her and Steve over for a nice lunch. Ruth made chicken curry with rice, and then cheesecake for dessert.

Steve and I went out to buy beer. You would think that would be no problem, because every little corner store sells it. But almost every store we went into would only sell it by the single bottle. We finally found one willing to put 24 in a case, and then he wanted 250 pesos ($23.75 CAN, $19.00 US) and I told him that was too much and walked away. We ended up buying 12 large cans for 120 pesos ($11.40 CAN, $9.12 US) which we thought was not bad,

Played cards in the afternoon. Didn’t have much computer time, because we are not plugged in here, and the sun didn’t shine all day. Solar panels are great, but not when it’s overcast all day!

We’ve decided to hit the road tomorrow. We’ve heard from a couchsurfer in Cancun who is going to host us over the holiday period, so that’s where we expect to be at Christmas. Nothing written in stone, because it’s still over 1,000 km’s (625 miles) away.

The birds wake us up early, so we’ll be up just after 6am for an early start tomorrow. Ruth and I liked Lake Catemaco though. It’s a beautiful area.
