Calderitas (day 3)

Tuesday January 13…10:30pm

It had rained some more overnight, and by the time we got up in the morning it was raining pretty steady.

It rained all morning, and the afternoon was mostly overcast with the odd sunny break. It’s cooled off a bit, the high was about 26C (78F).

Pas, asking if Whiskey can come out and play...

Parked up at Kathe's place

We spent the morning cleaning. We don’t use our onboard generator very often, so have to pretty much force ourselves to start it up once a month or so in order to keep it working and lubricated. This was a good opportunity to do so because Sherman needed a good vacuuming, and although the vacuum works fine off the batteries, it does use a lot of juice. Besides, with such a cloudy day, the solar panels aren’t putting out very much, so the generator will help to charge the batteries a little bit.

However, although the generator fired up okay, it didn’t sound just right. And the microwave clock didn’t come on as it was supposed to. And, the battery charger wasn’t working. After doing some testing, I found that the generator was only putting out 64V instead of the normal 120V A. So I cleaned the three fuses and their connectors on the generator itself, and then found one connector plug that seemed a bit corroded. After cleaning all of these things, I fired it up again, and thankfully everything was now working the way it is supposed to.

Ruth made dessert for tonight, and a plate of fudge.

We took Whiskey for a walk down the road this afternoon, and even though the rain had stopped and it was a little cooler, it was still muggy and damp.

S&G are leaving in a couple of days to go backpacking in Belize and Guatemala. They are leaving their motorhome here at Kathe’s and don’t want to leave their fridge turned on, so they are using up all their food as much as possible. So we went over to their place for roast pork dinner. It was really good, with gravy and roast potatoes.

Tomorrow, we’re going into Chetumal to a dentist. It is much cheaper to get any dental work done here rather than in US or Canada. We don’t have any problems that we know about, just a cleaning and checkup. Should be interesting, as the dentist only speaks Spanish!
