Maya Bell Campground (day 2)

Monday January 26…11:00pm

Because we are in the jungle, there are howler monkeys here. We haven’t seen them yet, but you can sure hear them. I was awake early because I had heard almost what sounds like a lion roaring.
It was pretty far away, but enough to keep me awake. We’ve been told that occasionaly the monkeys come right into the trees in the campground.

We took Whiskey for a walk up the hill to the ruins site. Dogs aren’t allowed in, but it gave us an idea of when we have to leave tomorrow morning in order to get in around their 8am opening time. It’s probably a half hour walk, all up hill.

The jungle is very thick around here!

We relaxed by the pool this afternoon, and did some reading. There are lots of very different people staying here. There is an area where you can rent a palapa with a hammock for the night, and lots of backpackers and tenters come here. Some of them are very hippy like. We sat outside of Bill and Bonnie’s (they are from Michigan) site and had happy hour with them. We were pleased to find out that they know how to play euchre, so after supper, they came over to our place for a few rounds of cards.
