Friday January 9…10:30pm
Not much of interest today. This morning, Ruth and Whiskey went to their spot on the beach, while I had some internet time.
In the afternoon, we played Canasta with S&G, while I also continued my backgammon losing streak against Steve. I think he’s now up 45-32, or something sad like that. We watched an old British movie this evening, “The Titfield Thuderbolt”...not great, but some entertainment value.
I was doing some reasearch into the areas we want to travel to over the next two months. We’ve decided we want to be at the Texas border by March 31 at the latest. Then, we’ll do a fair bit of driving over a short time period to make it to Plattsburgh, NY to watch Alex’s baseball by April 15 or so. So by the time we spend a week or two at Chetumal, we’ll have two months of time left in Mexico. We’re going to head to the ruins at Palenque, the waterfalls at Agua Azul, and then to the colonial town of San Cristobal, which sits at 6,500 ft elevation. Then, through Tuxtla Gutierrez to the Pacific coast, and then follow the coast up to Colima before heading inland and northeast to Texas. We’re going to go through some mountainous terrain that is supposed to be some of the most scenic in the world. There’s a boat trip that goes into a canyon in the National Park at Sumidero. So lots to look forward to in the coming two months.
We’re just about done here at the beach. We’ve decided to head out Sunday morning. I searched out the owner and made sure he was going to be around so that we could pay him. He didn’t seem overly concerned, but then he doesn’t need the money. Apparently he’s been offered $20M US to sell his property to a developer, but says he will not sell at any price.
