Chiapa De Corzo (day 2)

Tuesday February 3…10:30pm

Not a good night. We think we have done too much eating out recently, and that increases your chances of getting a stomach ailment.

Ruth was sick overnight, and also had to run to the bathroom several times. I was never sick but I tossed and turned with stomach cramps.

We cancelled our boat trip (there are no bathrooms on the boats!) and Bill and Bonnie went on their own. The owner here is very accomodating, and when we explained the situation he said there was no problem for us to stay another night.

Bill and Bonnie enjoyed their trip into the canyon, and said we definitely need to go before we leave here, so we will stay until we feel better. They have left and carried on to the orphanage as they have a tight schedule to get up to Puerto Vallarta.

Ruth didn’t have a very good day. I remember what it feels like, because it was me who was sick for 5 days last year in Mazatlan. Not nice. Fortunately, a German couple who we met in Palenque has arrived here, and she is a doctor. She has been great about making suggestions to make Ruth feel better, and has even given us some special tea and some electrolyte replacement drinks. She has said the very best thing you can do is to drink lots of liquids…at least 4 litres for the day.

We did manage a half hour walk into town this afternoon, just to take Whiskey out. Other than that, I read all day while Ruth alternated between the bathroom and trying to get some sleep. Although my stomach never did feel totally right, I was okay most of the day.

Ruth went to bed at about 8:45pm, so hopefully she will get a decent nights sleep, and we will be able to do the boat trip tomorrow.
