We were on the road at 8:45am, and only had another short distance to travel. But the road from here to Maruata is very twisty and windy.
Arrived at Maruata after 49 kms (30 miles) and it took us 1 hour and 15 minutes. Average of 40 km/h (24 mph).
We are parked on an old airstrip right beside the beach. There’s a small military installation on the opposite side, with maybe 25 or so soldiers stationed there, so it should be a safe night! We walked into the main town beach, and it’s quite busy with college students probably from Guadalajara which is only about 3 hours away by car. It’s also a prime surfing beach and there are a lot of tent campers here.
We went and sat under an old shelter beside the turtle egg place. This beach has a lot of sea turtle activity, and we can even find a lot of old turtle egg shells. They look almost exactly like a broken ping pong ball.

We were getting ready to go back to the motorhome at about 4:00pm when one of the military soldiers came over and said hello. His English was very good, and we had a decent conversation with him. He wanted to know if we had any DVD’s we could lend him because they needed some movies to watch at the compound. We gave him 3 movies that we were finished with and said he could keep them.
This is what the soldier brought us...I think Mexican soldiers eat pretty well, don't you?
