At about 9:30am, we walked up to the main highway to catch the local bus to Guadalajara. It’s about 50 kms (30 miles) from the town of Villa Corona to the centre of Guadalajara. The bus showed up, and it was 28 pesos ($2.41 CAN, $2.00 US) each, one way.
Traffic in and around Guadalajara is pretty busy, and it’s certainly not a place you want to take a motorhome. Including the stops to pick up or drop off passengers, it took us about an hour and a half to get there. Then, we had a walk of about 30 minutes to get from the bus station to the city centre.
Unfortunately, a lot of the downtown core is under construction. The sidewalks are all torn up, and it’s difficult walking except on some of the streets that are designated pedestrians only. Overall, we weren’t very impressed with Guadalajara, except that the market is a kind of interesting place. We went into a couple of the cathedrals, and they are very ornate…the pictures we took don’t really do them justice. But for the most part, it’s just a big city, with a LOT of grafitti.

Lots of traffic in Guadalajara
We got back to the bus station at about 3:00pm, and found that our return bus was scheduled to leave at 3:20pm. We arrived back at the trailer park at about 5:00pm.
Helmut and Claire, a couple we met in Maruata stopped by this evening, and we ended up talking with them for an hour or so.
We are leaving here tomorrow, and heading towards Zacatecas.
