We left Nashville around 9:00am. Thanks for the parking space, Tom and Beth!

We headed for the Camping World store on the north east end of the city. Along the way was the Grand Ole Opry and the Opryland Hotel and Resort. The only reason we stopped in here was because the guy at the visitor center recommended it. The Grand Ole Opry was nothing…we couldn’t even get in, but it’s just an auditorium anyhow. But the Opryland place is really neat. It’s like a bunch of buildings and hotels and a convention center all housed under glass domes with lots of plants and water ponds and waterfalls. Really neat.

Then we went to Camping World. Our roof refridgerator vent was falling apart and so we picked up a new one.

By the time we actually got outside Nashville city limits it was almost noon, so we hopped on the Interstate and made it to Mammoth Cave National Park in time for a 2:45pm Cave tour. This cave system is the largest in the world, and they do quite a few different tours at several different prices. We chose the “New Entrance” tour at $12.00 US ($15.00 CAN) each. The best part was going down the steps into the cave…you go down 250 feet and some of the sections where they built the steps are very narrow. The steps and railing are stainless steel and were installed in 1986 at a cost of about $3,000….per step! There were 280 steps down. The cave itself was not fantastic, but it was okay. The ranger leading the tour was really good though, so overall it was very worthwhile.

By the time we got out, it was almost 5pm, but we headed north to the Walmart in Bardstown, Kentucky. Stopped and filled up with gas at $1.899/gal US ($0.625/L CAN). Drove by Abe Lincolns birthplace and hometown, but the National Historic site was closed for the day.

Went through the time zone, so lost an hour and are now on Eastern time. By the time we got parked up at the Walmart it was almost 8pm.
