Galetta, Ontario

Wednesday April 29…11:00pm

On the road at 7am, and our first stop before leaving Plattsburgh was to fill up with propane. Even with the exchange rate still at 1.25, we are cheaper filling up here before entering Canada. The propane level in the tank had never been this low, and I was hoping that maybe by filling it up, it would fix our problem with the fridge not running on gas. For whatever reason, this did not fix the problem. Not a big deal, because we’ll be plugged in to electric for the next 6 months.

Arrived in Ottawa around 12:30pm. Stopped at the Loblaws grocery store near my parents place, picked up a few things and had lunch in the parking lot. Then went to say hi to my Mom and Dad and picked up our car which had been stored in their underground garage.

The first thing we had to do was give the government some money. Welcome to Canada! We went to renew our licence plate sticker…$74. Back in the land of high taxes and expensive beer.

Speaking of beer, our next stop was across the bridge to Quebec, where beer is about $10 per case cheaper. They are allowed to sell beer in regular stores in Quebec, thereby eliminating the unionized $20 per hour employee who hands you your beer in the Beer Store monopoly of Ontario. I cannot figure out why society puts up with that kind of organized rip off. So, we stocked up on beer from Quebec.

Had dinner with my Mom and Dad, and then drove up to Ruth’s parents in Galetta, Ontario…about 45 minutes west of Ottawa.

Total nights sleeping in a motorhome…548

April Fuel $721.20 CAN

April Grocery $357.40 CAN

April Overnight costs $ 46.50 CAN
