Wildlife

Here we are living in the city of Kingston and what do we see outside the kitchen window two nights ago? A raccoon...he sure looked pretty cute! Kevin took Whiskey out for a walk last night and saw another one peeking his head out from a culvert and found out from talking to another dog walker that there is a whole family of them living in this culvert under the driveway of the house across the street.

This started me thinking about all the different animals that we have seen in our travels, all in their natural habitat. We have seen deer and moose in Canada, as well as coyotes and antelope in the prairies from going on hikes or just driving along. Alligators in ditches beside the road, crocodiles on the riverbanks in Mexico. Whales playing in the ocean both in Mexico and in the Gaspe area in Quebec where we saw the whales right from the front seat of Sherman. I do have to admit that we paid for a boat to take us closer to see whales in Mexico, but they were still in their natural habitat, although we could still sit and watch them from the beach with binoculars and we also saw the crocodiles from a boat tour of the Sumidero Canyon. Kevin saw howler monkeys, I heard them! We have seen snakes, birds, butterflies, spiders, we even had one in Sherman and was he big!! Kevin saw a small tarantula spider on the grass under Sherman. There have been all kinds of lizards and iguanas. A sea turtle digging her nest and little baby turtles running to the ocean for their very first swim.

We feel so lucky to have seen these sights as most people only get to see some of these animals in a zoo or aquarium, how lucky are we!!!!

Please enjoy some of these sights below, you can click on the picture for a closer view.
