Outdoors

Yesterday, when we drove down to pick up the rims and tires, we also took Whiskey for a walk at the Heber Down Conservation Area near Whitby, Ontario.

Highway 401 runs between Toronto and Montreal

It's funny to think of all the snow that many areas of the U.S. has right now, while we are having a winter with very little snow here in Ontario, Canada . You can tell by the picture above that there are just a few patches here and there. It's been average temperatures, but very little snowfall.

So went for a 3 km (1.8 mile) hike at the conservation area. You can see that there is a little more snow on the trail. It was a nice walk, and we even managed to let Whiskey run around off the leash for quite a bit. She loves that, but we have to be more careful now that her hearing is bad because she doesn't pay attention when we call her.

On the highway coming here, we were confused by the big signs we saw at the side of the road. They have them placed about every 20 km's or so.

WINTER HAZARDS drifting snow, reduced visibility

Now, realizing that we are in Canada, did they really have to spend money putting these signs up? Figure that highway 401 has been there since the 1960's, it has always been located in Canada, and only now they have decided to tell us that we had better be careful, because it might snow here in winter! Too funny.

And today, we had a visitor in the backyard. Ruth was sitting near the back window when she saw two racoons who had decided to tour our yard and walked along the top of the fence and up the big pine tree.
