Heading further south

We have about 700 miles (1,100 kms) to go to get to Fort Myers, and we have to be there for next Sunday. So about 100 miles (160 kms) a day on average, and that's about the speed we like to travel! We're going to do this entire distance without getting on the interstate highway.

Today, we're headed to visit one of our online friends who has been following our travels since we were on the mytripjournal site. And wouldn't you know, they live about 100 miles from here, on Lake Moultrie. They have a cabin on the lake, and we're going to park there for a day or maybe two. If you don't see any updates here, it's because there's no internet at the cabin.

We stopped in Georgetown, SC and went for a walk downtown. There was nobody around except for a couple of other people out walking dogs. Very nice downtown area, especially the boardwalk behind front street.

We stopped in the town of St. Stephen for lunch, and should be at the lake house between 2-3pm.

11:00pm
We made it to Pete and Pams lake house just after 2pm. They have a couple of rustic cottages on the property by the lake front, and have all the amenities of home. Well, all except internet. Our Hawking antenna can pick up two networks coming from somewhere, but they are both secured.

Pete and Pam are in their early sixties, and are fellow RV’ers. Pete has been following our blog since the early days and so it was great to finally meet them. We love meeting people who follow our travels! They would love to get on the road full time with their 38’ diesel motorhome, but have been trying to sell their corner store and gas bar in order to free up their time. I told them they need to get rid of their “stuff” because they have too much of it! The whole key is to downsize and simplify your life. That makes it easy to be able to go where you want, when you want. I think it will be easy for them to get rid of the smaller stuff once the store is gone, but the economy hasn’t been great, and so there haven’t been many offers.

For supper, Pete grilled up some of the best steak we’ve ever had. Pam did up some baked potatoes and salad, and she made a homemade pecan pie for dessert. What a great meal! And then we socialized for the rest of the evening, and showed them some pictures of our first winter in Baja, Mexico because they are considering travelling to Mexico some day.

The weather today was the best yet. We could actually stand outside and not feel chilled. Tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer! And, Pete and Pam have offered us the use of one of their vehicles so we will probably take a trip into Charleston to see the sights. We were in Charleston two years ago at this time, and really enjoyed it.
