Riding our bikes downtown

We're headed downtown on our bicycles. Fort Myers has quite a few cycling lanes, and Google Maps has a new program for directions for people riding bikes.

The mapping system shows bike lanes for most of the 4.4 miles (7.0 kms) from the hotel to downtown. First we have to take Whiskey for a walk, then we're headed for a bike tour. Todays baseball doesn't start until 2:00pm, so we've got some time to explore.

Not a bad bike ride downtown and back. Along the way was the City of Palms Stadium, where the Boston Red Sox play their spring league games. Alex and some of the boys from the team want to maybe go see the game tomorrow on thier off day, so we said we would stop in and see about tickets. They have standing room only available, at $10 per person. You have to line up at around 7am, and tickets go on sale at 9am. We can park the motorhome in the area, and if the boys want to line up, they can. We'll see how badly they want to see the game. It's a small stadium, only seating just over 7,000, and they have sold out over 80 games in a row.

The actual downtown area of Fort Myers was pretty quiet. We stopped at a cafe and had a late breakfast...eggs, toast, bacon, homefries and coffee for $5 each, tip included. Then wandered around downtown. Might go back later in the week, and visit the Thomas Edison exhibits. He spent a lot of time in Fort Myers.

All of the downtown streets are lined with palm trees.

8:00pm
The boys won again! First game was 12-3, and second game was 9-3. They're now 9 wins and 1 loss. The best winning streak this school has ever had was in 2006 when they won 10 in a row. They sure are off to a great start. Tomorrow is their day off, and on Thursday they play an exhibition game against the Minnesota Twins rookie team that plays here in Fort Myers.
