We have it made!

It was our son's 22nd birthday yesterday. Ruth and I got married when we were 22. That sounds awfully young now, but we're glad we did what we did.

We remember when our friends were out partying and living it up in their twenties. We would tell them "just wait until we're in our forties, we'll have it made". We had Lindsey when we were 24, and Alex when we were 26. Now, we didn't stop partying and living it up when we were that age, we just brought the kids with us. There wasn't very much that the kids stopped us from doing. I remember the first New Years party we went to after Lindsey was born...she would have been just over 4 moths old. We took her to the party, and put her to sleep in one of the bedroom closets. There was a steady stream of 20 something girls going in to check on her!

It also never stopped us from travelling.  We went to England and Scotland when Lindsey was 8 months old, Ruth went back again with both Lindsey and Alex when Alex had just turned 3 and Lindsey was almost 5.  Went to Victoria for a week and camping on a regular basis, each year we tried to go somewhere, even if it was just close by.

All of our friends from that time period now have children in their early teens and younger. We don't envy them!

And now that we're in our late forties...we have it made!

  1. YUP, I agree guys, we were 21 and 18 in 1966 when we got married, we camped with 3 girls from the time they were born well into there teens (at about 16 it wasn't cool the camp with Mom and Dad) We were empty nesters before 50 and free to do whatever and go where ever. Now retired and just keep on doing it.

  3. How reassuring! We're living a wonderful RVing life at 24 and 25, and kids will probably be somewhere around the corner in the next few years.

It's great to hear that you were able to continue having fun and living your lives with little people around!

  4. Wow that's great that you are taking advantage of your youth and RV'ing now. I think if we knew more about this when we were young we may have done things differently, who knows?

While on the road we have definitely met other RVer's that travel with their young children, definitely a life learning experience.

Good for you, keep enjoying life!
