The entertainment is about to begin

Tomorrow is the first busy weekend of the summer here at the KOA. They have a special deal where you pay for Friday night, and then get Saturday for free. It's a good deal, and they collect donations and hold fundraising events for the KOA Care Camps, which is a registered charity that funds camping for kids with cancer.

It's usually close to sold out, so our peace and quiet is about to end...

So tomorrow we get to start watching the trailers and motorhomes come in and get set up. I always get a kick out of watching the people get things unpacked for the weekend. I tell you, that couple of hours of trying to arrive, get setup, get dinner, get the kids bikes off the rack...it doesn't seem like an enjoyable experience. And that doesn't count the hours it took them to get packed up for only two days away. And sooooo many people bring so many items from home, that they may as well have just stayed there.

Half the people spend more time getting their satellite dish aimed in the right direction. That's so they can watch TV while they're camping.

Last year, we came to the conclusion that 50% of RV'ers are not good at backing up, and a full 20% can't even go around corners properly. So that's always fun to watch.

And then there's the people driving too fast, the campfire smoke from one site going in the next sites trailer window, the guy cutting firewood with a chainsaw, the people making noise after quiet hour...ah, the fun begins...

  1. That's totally why I like fulltiming, and boondocking!! Camping weekends seem far too short. Just not enough time to really enjoy the area.
Neighbors? I always get stuck with the noisy ones!!! One camping trip, I even went next door at least 6 times to get them to lower their voice when cussing! (my son was 4 at the time).
    Yah, fun.
Not to mention the # of hours it takes to get ready for camping (planning, shopping, packing the trailer) and cleaning the trailer when you get home!

  2. Yep, we like the fulltiming and boondocking as well, luckily not everyone does or our boondocking areas would start to get too crowded and noisy!

  3. Yah, we are a third there on the boondocking! But when the kids were little, they loved the crowded campsites with all their little cousins camping next door. The activities, the swimming, the some-mores, even the walks to the bathrooms were an *event* ... with flashlights bobbing all over the place.

Now the kids are grown, and we can go to the quiet places.

(but grandkids coming now that want to camp too)

  4. I do find that alot of the people that come to this campground come in groups and you're right the kids all hangout together. I guess that is one of the reasons why they like it, that and the fact that such nice people work here and it is so clean!
