Live your life

Because you have no idea when it will end...

Last night I got the following email from the wife of the guy who hired me for my driving job …

Also wanted to let you know that Jim passed away unexpectedly with a heart attack on April 26th, I am not sure if you were aware of this. The business is going to continue and my brother with be stepping in to support operations. I will forward you his contact information in the next few days. I will continue to manage payroll and can also be contacted for any day to day issues if you are unable to reach him. I am hoping that you will continue doing the run as we are very pleased with the work you are doing.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

The guy was 49 years old, and they thought he was healthy. Left behind a wife and 3 kids.

This is why Ruth and I sold the house and quit our jobs to take off and see the world. We couldn't really afford to "retire", but we could certainly organize our lives so that things were much more simple...and we didn't see the need to keep up with the Jones' anymore.

You can do things to make your lives simpler. Quit that job you hate, or at least reduce your hours. Quit spending money on things that you don't need. Reduce your needs and you will have time to do the things you love.

  1. I'm glad my wife and I are making the move now. Stories like this are part of the reason why we're leaving our jobs to live life.

  2. You are so right, you only get to live this life once. Live it as though it were your last.
Sorry to hear about your boss :(
He was very young to have passed on.

Im happy with my decisions and once the house sells our lives will change so much and become so much more relaxed (just the commute alone is enough reason!) and enjoyable.

You guys are one of the reasons I was inspired to make the changes that I have, and continue to have. I can't sit idly by and watch others living my dream.
    :)
    Cheers

  3. One reason why we want to do something similar like you all have done.

I've had folks tell me that were being selfish and insensitive to our kids up-bringing by thinking about doing this.

I don't want to get to an older age where we can't do this.

You are all definitely inspiration for me.

  4. Yikes.... I will be 49 this summer.

It really makes you stop and think doesn't it ?

Our sympathies go out to the wife and children, it must be so hard to lose your husband and father, at such a young age.

Life sure isn't fair sometimes, is it. We really aren't guaranteed a tomorrow.

I guess it just reinforces the idea that life is short, so love lots, laugh hard, and live your dreams while you still can

  5. Happy to see that you all feel the same way that Kevin and I feel. To bad more people didn't feel this way. We hear too many stories of people who didn't do what they wanted to do and then are left saying, I wish I did this, or I wish I did that, when it is too late.

People need to get their priorities straight!
