Another Whiskey update

Well, I'm back visiting my Dad for a couple days.  On the way back to his house we made a quick stop at the vet's as it has been three weeks since Whiskey was there last.  She just finished her antibiotics today and she doesn't seem to have made much improvement over the last visit.  She
hasn't had any accidents but she is getting us up occasionally in the middle of the night to go out and she is spending alot of time licking herself, which is not supposed to be a good sign.

I went in to talk to them about what we should do.  Whiskey doesn't like this new food that she has to have in order to dissolve the bladder stones so I have been trying to add some water to it and heat it up a bit and that isn't helping much, so I started adding something else to it to make it more appealing to her, but that takes away from the special diet.  You are not suppose to give them anything else other than that food or it doesn't work to dissolve the stones.  As of the last day or so she won't eat it at all.  The vet said that the licking she is doing is because she is sore and uncomfortable, so she is definitely not a happy camper!  After talking to them at the clinic it seems that our only other option is surgery.

I emailed Kevin and we chatted back and forth and came up with the same decision.  I phoned the vet today and the earliest they can do it is next Tuesday morning.  So I will go back to Kingston tomorrow and come back here again on Monday.  It looks like she will be at the vet's for 48 hours so that they can monitor her to make sure that she doesn't have any issues from the anesthesia or the operation itself.  Until then I am still trying to get Whiskey to eat the special diet food, but I am mixing it with regular food so that she is at least getting some food in her.

We have had rain for the last three days and yesterday coming back with my Dad to his place after passing through a storm we saw this pretty rainbow.

We also saw a rare sight of a buck in the field with 4 female deer, but when I got out of the car to get a picture of them, they dashed off.  Just thought it was nice to finish off on a happier note.

  1. I'm sorry the food isn't working for Whiskey. They can be stinkers when you try to give them special food. I wonder if you should just go ahead and give her what she wants now (good and healthy though) and fatten her up a little before the surgery. Just a thought. I hope she does well. Keep us informed.

  5. Thank you for all your best wishes for Whiskey. She won't be a happy camper, but once it is all over she will be a more comfy dog. She is a good healthy dog so hopefully everything will go well. We will definitely keep you updated with the surgery and recovery.

Karen and Al...once we are back home tomorrow, I will put her back on her normal food I just don't want to give her KC's food because I don't want it to upset her tummy.

  7. Chris and Anne...Glad that Radar is doing so well now. It is so hard when animals are sick and can't tell you what is wrong with them, something like little babies and very young children. I am sure Whiskey will do just fine.

Sam and Donna...Whiskey said she will be fine and that she wants to meet up with Rigg's one day down the road and she promises not to take his new duckie. We will keep everyone posted.

Thanks again everyone for your best wishes.

  9. Im glad that Whiskey understands what they are saying. Whiskey says to tell them

    Ruff, Ruff, woof, woof
    whine, whine, whimper, whimper

    Arf, arf.

I think she said something about being a whimp and a little scared, but that she'll be OK and is glad so many dogs are thinking of her.
