We stopped in the tourist area where the cruise ships stop. We wanted to see if we could find decent quality mask and snorkel sets, and we did find some at the Hurrican Dive Shop. Only problem is that the price they gave us was in U.S. dollars. Sorry, but I am in Mexico. Why would I want to know the U.S. $ price of something I’m going to buy here??!! It drives me nuts. Having said that, you know right away that if the price you’re being quoted is in U.S. dollars, you’re being quoted too much. Just walk away!
However we did find out that a local shop in town called the Yamaha shop, sells masks, snorkels, fins, fishing gear, etc., and that the places who rent gear to the tourists buy their equipment at that store. So we’ll make an effort to go there over the next few days.
This is the view out our front door
When we were in this area almost two years ago, we stayed in the back parking area of a small hotel and coffee shop near the lighthouse (El Faro). It’s not really the nicest parking area, however the young couple who own the hotel are very nice, and the views in either direction are totally fantastic. Cost is 100 pesos ($8.33) per night. So we drove on up here again, and are parked up. Plus, it’s only a 10 minute walk to Playa La Entrega which is a good snorkelling beach.
And that’s where we went this afternoon. However, it was packed! Wall to wall Mexicans, out with their families for a day at the beach. Most people are still on holiday here, and the kids don’t go back to school until next Monday, January 10.
We did do some snorkelling, though, we each had a turn using a mask that we have that we’re guessing must be 20 years old. Still works though, and we were able to each have a half hour out paddling around in the bay. Lots of fish to be seen, however no way to show you any pictures of them!
Alex and Ruth went to look at the sunset. Then Ruth made lasagna which turned out really well except that using the oven turns the inside of Sherman into an oven…especially in this beautiful weather! Oh well, the price we pay…
A Lasgna, sounds like a Weibel supper here. I like to snorkel also, Don't worry your quest for a new mask will pay off, no use throwing money away needlessly.Even if it has to wait till you get back and use Craigslist or E-Bay.Looks like more fun at the beach. be safe out there. Sam & Donna.
ReplyDeleteI saw that area from one of those cruise ships last year. It was so lovely. I am totally enjoying reading about your travels there.
ReplyDeleteI know that place where you are parked. I was there last year on a work trip and we drove up there. Too cool.
ReplyDeleteGreat view from the front door. The beach pics show that you are clearly not alone.
ReplyDeleteMore great beach shots! An underwater camera would sure be great for a place like that!
ReplyDeleteJust so beautiful!!! Thanks for all the pics with every blog.
ReplyDeleteSam and Donna...That was one of my better lasagnas too. Got the masks and snorkells today (Jan. 7) can't wait to try them out.
ReplyDeleteMalone...The area is beautiful, now you just need to come back and explore it some more. Thanks for following along.
Chris...Yes, it is a beautiful view and close a great snorkelling beach. It is cool to read about somewhere you have been before.
Chuck and Anneke...Nice thing about motorhoming, you can wake up to a different view every day if you want. The beach was soooo busy.
Rick and Paulette...A underwater camera would be so great, the coral and fish are beautiful.
