Playa Tangolunda (Huatulco, day 10)

Our cellular internet went funny last night, and it still wasn’t working this morning. We were leaving this morning anyhow, so we decided to get up and leave right away.

So we drove into the town that surrounds the cruise ship port. Stopped at the lavanderia (laundry), but the sign said they don’t open until 9:00am. Tried to get wifi there, but no signal. So we drove into the town of La Crucecita where the big grocery store is because I knew I could get wifi from the Best Western Hotel next door.

Alex and Ruth went and did some groceries while I played with the stock market and posted yesterdays blog. When they came back, Alex went on and said there was a big storm supposed to hit New York tonight. So I checked his flight status, and sure enough the second leg from Houston to New York was cancelled! So I got on Skype and called Continental. It took a few tries, but now he is with us for another day! Oh well, he’ll just have to accept another day in sunny Mexico with us! Sometimes you just have to make the best of a situation! And if this storm continues through tomorrow, the nice lady at Continental said they will happily reschedule him for another flight if it gets cancelled again. So we’ll be checking online around 10:00am tomorrow to see what things say.

Would you pull over to the side of the road and have a game of cards? Too funny.

So we went back to the lavanderia and parked on the street. It was a wide street, and not busy at all, so we were fine there for the afternoon. Laundry wasn’t ready until 6:00pm, so we walked around the cruise ship port and checked out a few restaurants figuring we would treat Alex to dinner out. But we are not used to “tourist” prices, and that’s all there was to be had around that town.

After getting the laundry at 6:00pm, we decided to head over to the parking lot near the all inclusive hotels  because we knew we could overnight there for free. This is very close to where the first campground is that we stayed at when we got here almost two weeks ago. So we did just that, got parked up, and walked over to a pizza joint that was beside an expensive steak and lobster restaurant. We had a large mixed pizza (had just about everything on it), three beers, and a bottle of water, and the bill was 260 pesos ($21.67), small tip included. And we all agreed it was great pizza…nice crust, and not at all greasy.

Then we wandered over to an American bar that has a pool table…but they were closed this particular Tuesday. Oh well…so went back to Sherman for a few games of cards.

Our cellular internet is back working again, and we have a good unsecured linksys connection where we are parked for free.

  2. A pizza & beer and another day with Alex, sounds like a great day to me, What did Whiskey do. Hope all goes well with getting Alex home, the East coast has been hammered pretty good so far this winter. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.

  3. heyduke50...He is heartbroken!

Sam and Donna...Whiskey joined us with no problem. The pizza place was an open air place and she lay down beside the table. We were even taking her to play pool with us. In Mexico they don't care if you have your dog with you. Looks like Alex's flight will leave as scheduled today.

  5. WBY...Palying cards on the street was much cooler than sitting in the motorhome.

Yes, they do the laundry for you. Usually it is about 10 pesos (83 cents) for 1 kilo (2.2lbs). Ours was 8 kilos, but because we wanted it the same day we had to pay 15 pesos ($1.2o) per kilo. Our total bill was 120 pesos (about $10 or so). Not too bad! It is difficult to find laundromats where you can do your own.
