Hacienda Contreras (day 2)

Temperature inside the motorhome when we woke up this morning was 11C (52F), which is the coldest it’s been for us since mid December! Had to put on jeans and a sweatshirt!

But it quickly warmed up. The high today was about 26C (79F) which is just perfect.

The "castle" in the distance.

Getting closer

There is a “castle” of sorts a few fields away, and Barb and Sal know the owner so they suggested we could walk over and see the place. It’s a bit of an odd setup…he’s built the bottom section to be a restaurant and banquet hall sort of thing, but he has a bedroom on the upstairs level. Apparently the whole thing has been a work in progress for the last ten years and although there has been a wedding or two held there, the restaurant has never been open for business. He obviously has a lot of money, and rumor has it that he was invested in a gold mine that did very well.

We are hiking to the top of that mountain tomorrow!

When we returned, I started on some cleanup of Sherman. The screens on the vents needed cleaning, and I also took apart the fan and vent above the stove and cleaned it. One day this week I will get ambitious enough to get up on the roof and give it a scrub. I had done it in San Miguel in December, but all the salt spray from two months on the ocean needs to be washed off.

  1. You sure wash Sherman alot!, what does salt spray do to the motorhome if you don't wash it? Just curious.

Also do you have a screen on your sewer vents? Just in case some bugs want to come along for a ride?

    :)

Love the pictures, good thing you are having fun on your time off. travel safe and take care!
    Cheers!

  2. That's a neat castle, look's like as you go north the temps will fall, hope you still have sunny warm days. Be safe out there, Sam & Donna.

  3. WBY...Salt spray will rust any of the metal over time, such as screws and it also leaves a film which can collect more dirt. Yes we do have a screen over the bathroom sewer vent, but the teeny tiny ants could still get in. Hope that helps answer your questions.

Sam and Donna...The castle was interesting. The building itself was beautiful, and the landscaping by the building was great but some of the other stuff was a little out there, sort of on the tacky side. Right now the weather is perfect, cool at night but beautiful during the day. Would be great if it stayed that way as we head further north!
