Hacienda Contreras (day 6)

The day actually started off very foggy and cloudy. But the sun started to burn through around 9:00am and once again it turned into a beautiful day. We had planned on another hike this morning, and once we saw the sun we decided to go.

Sal and Ruth on the trail

This area has so many trails and backroads that you can walk on. Barb and Sal took us up the road that goes into the fields and hills beyond their house, and other campers Adolf and Millie joined us.

This lady uses burrows to bring milk down from the cows in the fields above. She does this every single day.

The peak near the upper right side is where we had hiked to the other day

Kevin, Whiskey, Barb, Adolf, Millie, and Sal...stopping for a water break

We were gone about three hours and got back to Sherman just after twelve noon. I got up on the roof and got most of the front half cleaned. I’ll do the other half tomorrow. I also cleaned out the lower compartments on the drivers side.

In the evening, we went up to clubhouse and played a sort of domino game called Mexican Train with Barb, Sal, Millie, and Adolf. Barb had baked some chocolate chip cookies….mmmm….my favorite!

  1. Looks like a nice day for a hike, you guys are sure getting the breaks with the weather, let us know which way you will be going home, if you happen to pass through St Louis, we would love to meet you. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.

  2. I'm curious about the piles of "dirt" in the third picture. I put dirt in quotation marks, since I suppose it could be dung, but it looks more like mole hills. We saw similar activity in the Netherlands when we lived there, and it turned out to be caused by burrowing moles. Am I getting warm with that one?

  3. Sam and Donna...The weather has been beautiful since we hit Mexico late November. Can't say we have had a bad day yet. Won't be passing by your place going back to Canada as we are headed to Nova Scotia so will be coming up from South Carolina. Who knows maybe we will be by your area in the fall, we would love to meet you.

Bob...Those "piles" of dirt are "mucho" cow dung. The hike we took a few days before this one though we went through one section that had a lot of gopher piles.

  5. George and Suzie...Yes, you certainly have to love them. We are sad that our time in Mexico is coming to an end for this trip.
