Zihautanejo (day 2)

Took Whiskey for a walk along the beach this morning, and then left her with Sherman while we walked over to the market. Didn’t bring the camera this time, so no pictures. Picked up a few fruits and veggies, as well as a tortilla press for our daughter Lindsey.

Cost of this one was 90 pesos ($7.56)

Both Ruth and Lindsey have gluten allergies, so they can’t eat wheat. You can buy wheat tortillas in Canada, but corn ones are hard to find, so now we can make our own. We had bought a press for ourselves in Puerto Escondido, and told Lindsey about it, and she asked to get her one too.

Around noon, we met up with our friends John and Wendy, and they took us to a beach on Barra de Potosi about 45 minutes away. We took the local bus about 20 kms and then another bus the last 5 kms. Cost was 20 pesos ($1.68) for the 25 km (15.5 mile) bus rides. We took Whiskey with us, and she sat on my lap the whole time. Nobody seemed bothered by the fact that she was there…everybody smiled when they saw her, and some tried to give her a little pet too.

We had actually passed by the entrance road to this beach on our way to Zihua, but you never know if you can get a motorhome down any given road without checking it out ahead of time to see if it’s “motorhome friendly”. Turns out this beach has a few possibilities for overnight parking, and even one place that has some RV hookups. http://www.ourhouse-zihua.com/has full hookups for two rigs at $30 U.S. per night, but they’ll allow dry camping as well at a reduced rate. (GPS coordinates N17.5564 W101.438913) There are other possibilities too, and we will investigate them next time we’re here.

Barra de Potosi has a fantastic beach. It’s uncrowded, good for swimming, and you can walk for miles. And it’s close to Zihua, so you could easily go into town for supplies if need be. This is another beach where it would be very easy to spend a week or more.

We had a very nice afternoon sitting in the shade of a restaurant, and had a meal there…we each had a fish dinner of varying kinds and a few drinks. Total bill for the four of us was 450 pesos ($37.81), small tip included.

Took Whiskey for a walk on the beach and the children were really attracted to her!

In the evening, we went back to John and Wendy’s apartment and showed them some pictures of other areas we’ve been to in Mexico. I think we gave them some ideas about traveling to different regions.

  1. I really think Mojo and Whiskey would be good pals. Mojo garners the same type of attention that Whiskey receives! Spanish speaking people are always amazed at how blanco (white) he is. They also say the word for fluffy (esponjado)then they always want a picture of him! Kelly & Mojo

  6. Grace...Whiskey says thank you!

Sam and Donna...Yeah, it seems that non-Mexican dogs here get quite a bit of attention. I am sure Riggs does too, he has one of those beautiful gentle faces. We've been watching your weather and you guys have had a hard winter compared to normal.

Tracy and Jim...Thanks, hope you guys had a good one. We miss you too, we had lots of fun that day.

  7. Yup, we know what you mean about getting down certain roads with the motorhome. Good to pre-check out any area. Backing up a long way is not fun!
